Reception and treatment of industrial waste

We provide our customers with a wide range of industrial waste treatment and recycling options, our extensive expertise, as well as Finland’s largest treatment centre network.

We can process and utilise large masses of industrial waste

For best results, we start collaboration at the source of the waste. This enables us to develop the customer’s processes and practices together with the customer so that increasingly less waste requiring treatment is generated, and the waste can be reused as material as easily as possible.

At our treatment centres, we treat and reutilise

  • industrial waste,
  • waste from the treatment of municipal waste,
  • waste from construction and services,
  • contaminated soil, and
  • other waste.

A wide range of tailored treatment solutions

By treating waste to be reused as material, we help our customers to reduce their environmental footprint and costs.

Waste treated at the treatment centres include:

  • ashes,
  • slag,
  • dust,
  • sludges,
  • contaminated soil,
  • sludge and sediments,
  • car shredding waste,
  • construction waste, and
  • industrial process waste.

We can provide an exceptionally wide range of tailored reception and treatment solutions to meet our customers’ needs. We use a variety of methods to treat waste fractions, such as

  • sorting,
  • separation,
  • solidification,
  • stabilisation, and
  • vacuum treatment.

Our wide range of environmentally friendly treatment methods ensures the efficient reutilisation of different types of waste. Much of the materials are utilised in the structures of our centres or delivered for use at other sites. In addition, metals sieved from slag, for example, are supplied to the metal industries for reuse as material.

We base the selection and tailoring of treatment methods on our long experience and expert analysis of the waste. To ensure this, Fortum’s laboratories use analysis methods conforming to standards and employ an efficient and reliable quality management system.

Our treatment centres provide a technically, economically and environmentally sound solution even for waste that cannot be reused. The acceptability of the waste at landfills is determined through laboratory analyses, and, after any required pre-treatment, the waste is delivered for final disposal.
